Of all minerals, the country's depths are only rich in high-quality iron ores. Explored reserves of iron ores prove Liberia to be among Africa's iron-richest countries. There are deposits of manganese, gold, diamonds, kyanite and barite; occurrences of ilmenite, chromite, lead, copper, tin, columbite, graphite, corundum, mica (all in Archean metamorphic rocks); and seaboard placers with minerals of rare-earth elements.

Most gold deposits are connected with alluvial depositions. Gold quartz veins were also found in the east of Liberia. Liberian gold is known for its premium quality and low admixture content.
Diamond placers were detected in the riverbeds of Loffa, Mano, Saint-John, Jibloung, Bor and other rivers. In the upper parts of Loffa river a kimberlite pipe was found, as well as several kimberlite dikes in the south-west of the country. 75% of diamonds are industrial, the rest are gems. Diamond quality is rather low. Inferred diamond reserves make 25 mln carats.
A large Kyanite deposit lies to the north the town of Buchanan.
