There is no information about total or explored reserves of chromites in Guinea. Chromites were first discovered on the Kalum peninsula during the iron and nickel works. They belong to the aureole between the Mesozoic dunites and gabbro-norites, 20-80 meters deep. Chrome oxide content was found to be 37.5 to 42.3%. In 1968, Soviet geologists conducted a detailed geochemical photo survey resulting in the discovery of chrome contact zone containing from 0.7% to 2.5% Cr2O3. Reserve calculations weren't conducted, deposit remained ill-explored.
